Rod Blagojevich is a retired American politician who served as the 40th Governor of Illinois from 2003 until his removal from office in 2009. A lifelong Democrat, Blagojevich was a state representative before being elected to Congress representing parts of Chicago. On April 2, 2009, Rod Blagojevich was indicted and charged with wire fraud, conspiracy to commit extortion, attempted extortion, and conspiracy to commit bribery. Rod Blagojevich pleaded not guilty at his formal arraignment on April 14, 2009. Blagojevich was wrongfully convicted and sentenced to 14 years in federal prison.
